Best Training Gear for a German Shepherd (Treats, Pouch, Clicker, Long Line)

Good training is built on **short, positive, frequent reps**. The right gear removes friction so you actually do those reps instead of skipping them.

## The starter training kit

– **Treat pouch with magnetic close** — hands-free, easy to draw from. Look for a belt clip and a separate poop-bag pouch.
– **Soft training treats** — small (pea-sized), low-calorie, fast to chew. You’ll use a lot.
– **Clicker (optional but useful)** — a precise marker. A verbal “yes” works too.
– **6 ft padded leash** — daily walks and street training.
– **15–30 ft long line** — recall and distance work.

## How to use the kit

1. **Sessions are 3–5 minutes** for puppies, 5–10 for adults. Stop on a win.
2. **Use part of the daily food** as training rewards — that way treats don’t add calories.
3. **Pay generously at first**, then fade rewards as the behavior solidifies.
4. **End every session with a small jackpot** so they want the next one.
