Best Training Gear for a German Shepherd (Treats, Pouch, Clicker, Long Line)

Good training is built on short, positive, frequent reps. The right gear removes friction so you actually do those reps instead of skipping them.

The starter training kit

• Treat pouch with magnetic close — hands-free, easy to draw from. Look for a belt clip and a separate poop-bag pouch.
• Soft training treats — small (pea-sized), low-calorie, fast to chew. You’ll use a lot.
• Clicker (optional but useful) — a precise marker. A verbal “yes” works too.
• 6 ft padded leash — daily walks and street training.
• 15–30 ft long line — recall and distance work.
• No-pull harness — see the harness pillar.

How to use the kit

1. Sessions are 3–5 minutes for puppies, 5–10 for adults. Stop on a win.
2. Use part of the daily food as training rewards — that way treats don’t add calories.
3. Pay generously at first, then fade rewards as the behavior solidifies.
4. End every session with a small jackpot so they want the next one.
