German Shepherd Grooming Schedule (Weekly + Monthly)

A consistent grooming schedule keeps a German Shepherd comfortable, the house clean, and small problems small. Here’s the routine.

## Daily

– **5-minute brush** with a slicker.
– **Quick visual check** — eyes, ears, paws.
– **Dental:** a vet-approved chew or quick brushing a few times a week (not strictly daily, but the habit helps).

## Weekly

– **Deshedder session**, 10–15 min, more during coat-blow.
– **Ear check** — German Shepherd erect ears stay cleaner than floppy breeds, but glance for redness or odor. Anything unusual → vet.
– **Paw + nail look** — are nails clicking on the floor? Time to grind.

## Every 2–4 weeks

– **Nail trim or grind.** Long nails change paw mechanics and stress joints over time.

## Every 4–8 weeks

– **Bath.** Use a gentle dog shampoo. Brush BEFORE the bath. Towel dry, then let the coat air-dry or use a low-heat dryer.

## Seasonal

– **Coat-blow (spring + fall):** deshedder daily, outside, until the undercoat is out.
– **Cold weather:** check paw pads for cracking. A paw balm can help.
